Goal setting: Achievo!

Tonight I went to a lecture by Bjorn Vandewege. Most of you won’t even remember his name altough he got lots of media attention some months ago. Together with two friends he managed to reach the top of the world (literally) by climbing the North Face of the Mount Everest.

He started off by talking about setting SMART-goals and just doing things instead of just talking about it. If you say you’d like to climb the Everest than you should do so or at least try.
The lecture was organised by Voseko and was free for students. Thanks! I really enjoyed it and it was very inspirational. As being a climber myself I might follow his footsteps one day.
Bjorns lecture reminded me to “The Last Lecture” of PhD Randy Pausch (via Freek Staps / more info on Slashdot) at Carnegie-Mellon University. The so called brick wall that stops people from achieving their goals is only there to show to the world how badly you want to achieve something. It’s what separates you from the other people. I think wel all need to take some more leaps of faith to achieve what we dream of and what we believe in.
The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture
